Technical discovery questions
Do not turn discovery into an interrogation. Explain why each question helps the decision.
| Business trigger | What changed? Why now? Which customer or business outcome is at risk? |
|---|---|
| Current state | Walk me through one affected request and its dependencies. Who operates each boundary? |
| Impact | How often does this happen, to whom, and what does it prevent them from doing? |
| Evidence | What does a failing example look like? What works? What changed just before this began? |
| Constraints | Which deadline, compliance, residency, compatibility, budget and staffing constraints are real requirements? |
| Stakeholders | Who uses it, operates it, sponsors it, funds it and approves the change? Who might disagree? |
| Success | What measured result would justify adoption? Who accepts the PoC and when? |
| Next step | Can we agree on one bounded test, its owner, timeline, data needs and decision criteria? |
