PRACTICAL EXERCISE · MODULE 10

Full mock Senior Customer Engineering interview

Run an offline 60-minute mock: 5 minutes recruiter introduction, 10 minutes project depth, 15 minutes architecture, 10 minutes debugging, 10 minutes discovery and teamwork, and 10 minutes questions and self-review.

Work through the problem

  • Give the two-minute introduction and answer one follow-up without inventing metrics.
  • Tell one PCATO story from a real project, lab, volunteer assignment, or customer engagement; mark outcomes to verify.
  • Whiteboard a SaaS API with secure ingress and asynchronous work.
  • Investigate a simulated deployment-related failure using evidence and a reversible mitigation.
  • Conduct discovery before proposing a Cloudflare product.
  • Ask role and compensation questions, then score yourself against the seven competencies.

Deliverables

  • Written or locally recorded answers
  • Architecture sketch and debugging notes
  • Claim ledger and targeted study plan

Self-review rubric

  • Accurate personal attribution and no fabricated outcomes
  • Clear assumptions and meaningful tradeoffs
  • Discovery before prescription
  • Specific customer and team communication
  • Commercial reasoning without unsupported salary or ROI claims
Compare with the worked approach

There is no single script. A strong performance uses verified stories, a simple architecture tied to requirements, hypothesis-driven debugging, and a customer discovery summary with owners and success criteria. Self-assess each answer against the reference criteria, select two concrete weaknesses, and repeat those segments. This offline rubric is human self-assessment, not AI grading or a hiring prediction.
